It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and esteemed colleague, Allister Murdoch, passed away peacefully at the Western General Hospital on Tuesday 16th June 2026.

 

Allister was a kind, warm and compassionate man whose generosity, wisdom and willingness to support others touched all of us who had the privilege of knowing him. He was always willing to share his expertise, always offering encouragement whenever it was needed.  

 

He was passionate about his work, and his lifetime achievements were many. A pioneer in the field,

he dedicated much of his time and energy to improving men’s mental health. Allister specialised in working with issues related to gender, sexuality, relationships, diversity, childhood abuse and men affected by domestic abuse

 

As one of the founding team members of EH1 Therapies, Allister played a vital role in developing a service for men. His vision and commitment left a legacy which we will honour through the work we do. We are on hand at EH1 to talk to anyone whose life has been impacted by Allister who would like to share their thoughts with us.

 

Above all, Allister reminded us of the importance of looking after ourselves and each other. He would often say, “just be happy”, or “take good care of yourself”, words that reflected his warmth and regard for those around him.  

 

Allister will be greatly missed by all of us. Be at peace Allister, and thank you for everything you gave to us, and to so many others.
